When does Orange Shirt Society use or disclose personal information?

Orange Shirt Society makes every reasonable effort to ensure that personal information is accurate and complete. This may involve requesting further information or updates from individuals. Orange Shirt Society relies on individuals to notify Orange Shirt Society if there is a change to their personal information that may affect their relationship with Orange Shirt Society.

Orange Shirt Society retains personal information only as long as is reasonable to fulfill the purposes for which the information was collected, or for legal or business purposes.

Privacy Rights

Orange Shirt Society will provide individuals with access to the personal information Orange Shirt Society holds about them in accordance with applicable laws. Orange Shirt Society reserves the right to require that any request for access to personal information be made in writing. Generally, there is no cost for such access. However, Orange Shirt Society reserves the right to charge such costs on a case by case basis in accordance with applicable laws. The individual will be notified in advance if charges apply.

Orange Shirt Society will correct or amend the personal information in its files where it can be shown that the information is incorrect or incomplete.

If the individual is a Quebec resident, the individual also has the right to (a) be informed of a confidentiality incident involving his personal information that may cause him a serious injury and (b) data portability.

Storage and Processing

Orange Shirt Society will store the personal information on its internal servers and/or with its services providers. Orange Shirt Society’s service providers may store and/or process personal information outside of Canada (including in the United States of America). If you are a Quebec resident, please note that your personal information might be communicated outside of Quebec.

When information is stored or processed outside the jurisdiction where it was collected, it may be subject to the laws of and be accessible by legal authorities in such other jurisdictions.
