A Tribute to Phyllis Webstad’s Story & Message
2026 Official Every Child Matters Design
We are overjoyed and ecstatic to announce and congratulate the winner of our 2026 Every Child Matters T-shirt design contest: Emily Galeazzi!!!
Emily, a Grade 2 student from Coldstream, BC, immediately captured our selection committee’s attention with a design that radiates pure happiness and innocence, the way every childhood should be.
Between the 1870s and 1996, more than 150,000 First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children were taken from their families and placed in Indian Residential Schools. For many, happiness became a distant memory or a dream. Emily’s beautiful design offers a powerful symbol of hope. Hope that Survivors find peace & happiness and hope that Canada’s reconciliation efforts will ensure a future where EVERY CHILD MATTERS.
Thank you, Emily, for your meaningful contribution to the reconciliation movement!
“Happiness—because every child should be happy and every child matters.”
Emily Galeazzi
In one simple action, by wearing an orange shirt, you are acknowledging the legacy of Indian residential schools, honouring Survivours, their families, and those that didn’t make it home while helping to build a future where Every Child Matters.
